What is the difference between an investment manager and a financial planner?

Financial planners may provide guidance on savings plans, debt management, tax or estate planning, and setting and obtaining financial goals. Investment managers only weigh in and have responsibility for your investment portfolio. They typically have more in-depth knowledge about financial markets and an expert understanding of how to access financial markets through the most appropriate investment vehicle to fit your needs.

We advise individual investors (single persons, married couples, families, joint partnerships, or estates) who have acquired investment funds due to:

  • Bonus, commission or supplemental income
  • 401(k) rollover due to job change
  • Sale or dissolution of a business
  • Retirement or pension fund lump-sum payouts
  • Inheritance and gifts
  • Trust funds
  • Savings earmarked for investing

Eamon acts as an Outsourced Chief Investment Officer, or OCIO, offering a broad spectrum of investment solutions. Firm founder Tom McGahan has more than 20 years of experience advising and managing the investments of large institutional capital pools for corporate retirement benefit plans and public pension plans with assets in excess of $25 billion. He also specializes in tax-exempt portfolio management, preserving purchasing power for endowments/foundations to keep pace with spending needs and inflation for your organization’s operating and grant-making needs.

Institutions can leverage the skill and expertise of an on-call senior investment manager without incurring costs related to salary, benefits, or other administrative costs.

Our OCIO service offerings include:

  • Investment policy statements
  • Asset allocation
  • Investment research and market commentaries
  • Portfolio rebalancing
  • Manager selection and/or manager platform build out
  • Performance reporting and analysis

As an Outsourced Chief Investment Officer, or OCIO, Eamon can provide a more sophisticated approach to investment management for your client portfolios. Our knowledge of investment opportunity sets and various parts of the financial markets can supplement your planners’ expertise.

We are an ideal professional partner, allowing you to focus more on policy, relationship management, or business development and devote less time to analyzing each investment decision.
